Your Car Feels Hot Too. Protect It.
You feel hot when you are exposed to the sun for a longer period right? You might get sunburn as the UV rays can harm us. Things go the same to our car.
The heat, the light and UV rays from the sun can harm our car’s exterior and interior. WE need to protect our car.
P/s: You need to know this because Malaysia receives a lot of blazing hot sun.
1) Park Under Shade / Shelter
Obviously, parking under shade or shelter is one of the best methods to protect your car. Your car doesn't move all the time so whenever you are not using your car, it is best to park your car under a shelter or in a shaded area, like under a tree.
Parking under the shelter or shade can protect your car’s paint and interior from direct sunlight and heat.
You may build an extra roof at your house compound or plant some trees.
2) Use Sun Shades
Parking your car under the sun without cover, the sunlight and heat will slowly but surely damage your car’s dashboard, steering wheel and seat. Your butt will also be fried when you sit in your car. Talk about ass burn.
One effective method to protect your car’s interior from sun rays would be to use sunshades to block the sun ray from entering your car. Use sunshades for all side windows and for front and rear windscreens. Cover them like “curtains”.
3) Window Tinting
Malaysia passed a regulation that car owners can tint their car’s windshield and side windows. You are advised to do so if your car is always exposed to the sun. The tint will block those sunlight and heat away and these would protect your car’s interior.
Take note, although we are allowed to tint our rear windshield and rear passenger window as dark as we want but the front windshield and front side mirror are still required to let in 70% and 50% light respectively.
4) Protect the Car’s Paintwork
While taking precautions to protect your car’s interior, you must not forget the exterior. While it may seem like a lost cause, they are actually measures for you to take to slow down the degradation of your car’s paintwork under the sun.
To protect the car’s paintwork from the sun, you could get a paint protection coating for your car, or even just a simple wax job, which is cheaper. These invisible layers of protection, apart from protecting the car from UV rays, can also fend off dust, dirt, moisture, minor dents and scratches.

5) Clean Your Car
Sun alone is harmful enough but if there is a lot of dirt, dust and substances on your car, added with the sunlight, your car’s interior and exterior can deteriorate faster. Clean your car regularly.
Make sure to clean the outside with car soap. For car interior, use leather conditioner if your car uses leather upholstery. Most importantly, use proper and certified cleaners.
