Are You Actually Saving Your Petrol Consumption?

The price of petrol is not going to reduce to the level that we like, we have to accept that. We can only barely adapt to the price that was set to it.

The only thing we can do is to practice some practices so that we can help improve our fuel efficiency. However, how many practices out there are true? Check out some “rules” that we are going to share with you that most think are true but you can actually RECONSIDER it.

1) Air Conditioner Doesn’t Cost You Fuel

This might be a little funny if you believe it because since the air conditioner requires power to run, where does the energy come from if not the engine? In fact, the air conditioner costs you fuel because it causes extra “work” from the engine.

Usage of air conditioners can increase fuel consumption by around 20% depending on several conditions like outdoor temperature, vehicle’s size and operating’s condition.

You're still going to be using your air conditioner right? It’s hot in Malaysia.

2) Manual Car Consumes Less Petrol

Most people always think that manual cars consume less petrol compared to automatic cars. Well, yes, actually this statement is kinda true.

However, now, as technology advances, automatic cars become more advanced and additional requirements are being provided therefore the automatic cars now are getting better in terms of fuel efficiency.

Automatic cars are even overtaking manual cars in terms of fuel efficiency too. You may consider an automatic car now if you are still driving a manual car.

3) Restarting Car Requires More Petrol

How many of you leave your engine running with the idea of turning it off then turning it on later would actually cost you more petrol? Well actually, leaving the engine running actually consumes more fuel than turning it off and on later.

Actually, this depends on you. If you are actually waiting or going to be idle for a long period, just turn off the engine. It will save you more fuel.

Actually, today’s car with fuel injection and electronic ignition starts more easily and will not wear as much on your engine components.

4) Smaller Car Consumes Less Petrol

This is widely believed by most people. With a smaller car, the fuel consumption will be lower but actually, with today’s technology, a car’s petrol consumption is not determined by the size of the car. What matters more is the engines and component’s performance, car body design and the car’s materials. Those will determine the petrol consumption better.

Do you know that turbochargers and diesel engines enable some cars to be better in fuel consumption?

“Obviously, the highest type of efficiency is that which can utilize existing material to the best advantage,” - Jawaharlal Nehru

5) Old Car Consumes More petrol

Admins get this a lot from other people, “Don’t buy old cars or used cars, they consume more fuel”. How many of you heard of this too?

Well, actually, a car’s fuel consumption should actually stay the same or with only very little changes in terms of fuel consumption if the car is well maintained.

Just make sure to change those parts and make sure that each part of the car is running perfectly and the petrol consumption will not be much different from a new car.

So, after reading all that? Are you still going to believe those “rules” out there or are you going to try out something new? We hope that this article can give you some idea about the “rules” being said out there. Maybe you can reconsider to either stick with the old rules people believe or search and practice other fuel saving tips.
